Sound exploration

My initial idea was to base sound on the combination of natural and artificial. I have experimented with that by recording

  • traffic noise and sounds of the forest and park

  • metallic sounds and falling snow

After that, I considered making the sound more personal. I thought of using a seashell as it in a way represents a very personal variation on the sound, as each person will have their own version of so-called “sound of waves”, as obviously it is your own bloodstream being echoed. This concept of fake, but resembling natural. Consequently, it could work well with the notion of natural and artificial as well as turning it into something that is aimed at affecting everyone individually, if only one person can enter the space at a time and will be given a seashell that is going to be sort of a speaker in itself, giving an illusion of natural sound. Having considered that option, I realized that it could be not very effective as the loudness of sound would vary too much depending on a person and overall circumstances (as projectors might be too noisy). Then I thought that I could record the echoing of my own bloodstream, but it was impossible to hear, so I abandoned that idea.

As the footage for the installation resembled surreal nature in a cooler colour palette, It appears to have similarities with the marine world. It led me to recording sounds of water drops, that I then altered in Adobe Audition, mainly by adding echoes and delays, with an eye to finding something rhythmic.
