Disapproval or voyeurism coming from above

Due to the fact that the feeling of being uncomfortable should be dominant as well as the feeling of being frown upon, eyes come in handy as a tool to make viewers realize that they are being watched and judged.

My initial thought was to film an eye or to take pictures of an eye. I was aiming at something quite realistic, close to a human eye.

For my first trial, I asked my friend and coursemate Austeja to model for that purpose. During the photo shoot, I realized that my camera’s macro filming capabilities were not enough, which led to almost all images being grained and looking a far cry from something considered realistic. Nevertheless, they seemed to look interesting, but I felt that they were not lively enough due to lack of colour.

As from that moment on they were not 100% human eyes, I decided to add more colour to make them even less realistic, in order to get that effect of something that resembles reality that can be related to, but still feels alien, So I tried projecting a white circle with gel of various colors put over the projector. Then I layered edited eyes from that photoshoot to achieve an image that would look like an eye but not entirely, the result was something resembling a heavenly body. From that point, I felt that the projected started to develop in a new direction, as the issue of alienation became more global since that galaxy feel was within the imagery.

Probably that sort of connection to celestial bodies made the imagery even more suitable for my idea, as I felt this way the alienation was magnified and it made it impossible for any human to connect to this created environment. I assume that space like imagery mixed with photos of nature would create an aura of something familiar but odd.
